The Shining | Title Sequence

ART 3205 | Fall 2024

The Shining is a psychological horror film about a family: Jack, a writer, Wendy, his wife, and Danny, his son plagued by psychic premonitions, who becomes the caretaker of an isolated hotel. Jack came to the hotel hoping it would cure his writer's block. As his writing is going nowhere, Danny's visions become more disturbing. Jack discovers the hotel's dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.

The sequence focuses on bold illustrations inspired by Saul Bass's minimalist approach and powerful imagery. The use of color contrast helps create an unsettling atmosphere of the film's psychological aspect. The sequence includes key scenes, characters, and objects from the film.
