Dulcet | Responsive Design
ART 3210 | Spring 2025
For this project, I had to design a unique, standout website theme. We began by pitching several ideas based on different target audiences—such as writers, businesses, wellness providers, or restaurants—before choosing a final direction. The focus was on creating a flexible, responsive design system rather than a website for a specific client.
Theme must include:
1 primary homepage and 3 additional pages
1 primary and 1 secondary navigation system (more optional)
Clearly defined content areas: titles, headlines, paragraphs, sub-headers, callouts, images, footers, and links
Interactive elements: forms with text fields, radio buttons, dropdowns, etc.
A responsive design that works across various devices
The goal was to create a cohesive visual system with adaptable design rules that ensure a consistent, engaging user experience across different use cases.
Process Work
As we began sketching for the website, we had to articulate the style, subject content, and ideal use for 3 different themes. The theme's primary purpose, who would benefit from the use of this template, and why. From the 3 themes, I went with Dulcet, digitalizing it into 3 different directions. After choosing a direction, I expanded and refined the theme from desktop to mobile.
Verdure (Plant Care)
Verdure is designed to help track and manage the health of your plants, whether in your home or garden. With Verdure, you can easily catalog each plant, recording vital information such as species, location, watering schedules, growth progress, and overall health. The theme is designed with simplicity, featuring an easy-to-navigate catalog where each plant's details are neatly organized for quick access. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a beginner, this theme allows you to monitor and support your plants' needs, fostering a healthier environment for them to thrive in.
Dulcet (Baking)
Dulcet is a charming, nostalgic theme designed for those who enjoy creating baked goods. The design evokes a warm, cozy atmosphere through creamy, earthy colors and natural elements like soft shapes, flowing lines, and inviting typography. The layout is designed to showcase imagery of baked goods alongside their recipes. Dulcet also offers features that allow users to explore various recipes or share their baking creations. Dulcet is the perfect space to discover, enjoy, and connect through the art of baking.
Lucid (Artist Site)
Lucid is a bold and straightforward design to showcase artists work. The artist is able to choose from bold contrasting colors, monochromatic, or black and white colors. The design focuses on presenting a gallery of the artists work. The design also features navigation of details of the works, artist statement, biography, etc. The minimalist and sophisticated design concept crafted with the primary goal of putting the artist’s work at the forefront. The theme is designed to function as an art gallery. The viewer can navigate the gallery and browsing through different collections or specific works. Lucid have sections that allow the artist to share more about their creative journey and process.
